About

Issues perpetuating poverty are exacerbated by the absence of impacted individuals in a position to make systemic changes. The LaStraw, Inc. (pronounced last straw)- a 501 (c)(3) community based nonprofit organization – was founded by a group of Greensboro, NC residents who grew up in several of the low income areas of Guilford County. The LaStraw, Inc. serves as an institutional base from which individuals engage in a root cause analysis of issues perpetuating poverty and create opportunities to resolve those issues.
Our work focuses on creating partnerships with organizations serving marginalized populations with culturally relevant activities that will create positive lasting changes in low income areas.
Vision:
An eventual reduction in the need for emergency based social services by actively engaging individuals in low income areas in a root cause analysis of issues perpetuating poverty unique to their community as well as their overall demographic.
To create an accessible network of human and social services empowering low-income people to improve their quality of life.
Goal:
To develop, coordinate and/or implement activities addressing issues perpetuating poverty while providing the opportunity for meaningful involvement of individuals living in low income areas.
